Practical Tips from the Montessori Method!

Maria Montessori developed a revolutionary educational system, widely known today as the Montessori Method. At the time, it was considered highly innovative—yet today it is applied in nearly 60,000 schools worldwide and is increasingly embraced by parents as a method of child-rearing.

Below are some practical tips from the Montessori approach that can be applied in your child’s everyday upbringing:

  • The foundation of the Montessori system is deep trust in the child and respect for their abilities.

  • Its philosophical core is the individual—as the nucleus of society—and the individual’s freedom.

  • The motto of the method is “Help me to do it by myself.” Education should therefore respect the child’s need for freedom, their personal rhythm, and their interests.

  • Children are liberated to follow their natural desire for growth and learning—without unnecessary prohibitions. Through their environment, they learn self-discipline.

  • There are no punishments from parents—only boundaries and natural, logical consequences. This “freedom within limits” strengthens a child’s self-regulation. There is neither punishment (which diminishes confidence) nor rewards (which fuel competition).

  • Core activities include: care of the body (leading to self-awareness), caring for animals and plants, learning good manners, developing intelligence (asking and answering questions), physical and psychomotor activities, arts, and more.

  • In Montessori, practice outweighs theory. Learning is experiential and hands-on.

  • A key principle is the uninterrupted three-hour work cycle, during which children engage in an activity of their choice without interruption—developing focus and coordination.

  • Montessori environments emphasize natural light. All furniture is child-sized, allowing children to be independent, move freely, and take initiative.

At All Deco Home, we design and craft Montessori furniture so you can bring the method into your home.
